Gig Posters
Mac Miller
About
-
In this project, I aimed to design two band gig posters. I experimented using the Swiss Design style for this project. I created these posters for a hypothetical Mac Miller concert. My goal was to keep the design relatively simple by using line, shape, and typography to tell a story and provoke the feeling of his music.

My process began with a mood board. I already knew a lot about the artist, as a big fan, so I knew I wanted to capture a serene aesthetic. I used color and shape to represent a setting sun. I chose my font as an ode to the font on his last album cover, a tall sans serif font. I experimented in illustrator and played with the font to create a rippled effect, representing water in terms of the serene scene I was creating.

An aspect of both posters that I really enjoyed playing with was the copy arrangement. I found that this style, of having type fit together in this way and turning it around and on its side, has stuck with me through future projects. In the second poster, I wanted it to clearly connect to the first but have its own unique aspects. To do this I simplified the ripple effect and created movement through the two posters with the “setting sun”. In this poster, the “sun” moves down and as it is now over the horizon and I added his photo over the sun to mimic a projection.
