For this project, in my web design studio, my team and I were able to design a potential website for our community partner. Our community partner was Huntertown Community Interactive Park. The group working on this park project has been working hard for a few years now to gain funding to build up the Huntertown Park. It will be an interactive historical park to tell the stories and commemorate the African American community who lived in Huntertown. The park has not been built yet and they are still in the process of cleaning up the land. Huntertown needs a website to spread the word to gain funding and volunteers to complete their project.
Through this project, we were able to gain skills working as a team, of three, to effectively collaborate, communicate and execute our ideas. Our goal for this project was to deliver an effective website that met all of their needs.
-
This project involved a lot of brainstorming planning and communication between our team over the course of three weeks. We were able to meet with Sioux, who is leading this project, and came in to tell us all about the history and what their plans are for the park. She also gave us a list of needs for the website which helped a lot with the brainstorming process.
We began the project by creating a competitive analysis, SWOT analysis, potential personas, and potential user journeys for the site. This allowed us to look at user experiences and anticipate their needs.
We used Figma to create our web designs. We started by making wireframes for desktop and mobile versions. Then we created assets and started placing the images, buttons, headers, and footers into the wireframes. After placing all of the assets together and finalizing them, we were able to prototype the site to make it interactive.
-
Our final step in the development process was prototyping. We created detailed headers and footers so that we could have a page to show off all of the elements of the park on their own pages. An important aspect of this site was to have a prominent call to action in the upper right-hand corner to promote donation and support. We also brought forward a few ideas to present to the Huntertown Park representative like having an interactive learn page for kids and local schools, a newsletter for past residents, and an archive to highlight historic stories.
